Astrid en Emma Wauters vormen als tweelingzussen een duo sinds hun eerste noten muziek. Ze startten allebei aan het Stedelijk Conservatorium van Brugge om daarna hun eigen professionele parcours op te gaan.
Astrid wordt als jong talent uitgenodigd in de klas van Marie Hallynck aan het Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles waar ze later haar Master behaalt. Daarna haalt ze een ManaMa Kamermuziek in Leuven. Emma haalt in Antwerpen haar Masterdiploma met grootste onderscheiding in Antwerpen bij Sophie Hallynck, en ze vervolmaakt zich aan het Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon bij Fabrice Pierre. Emma behaalt diverse prijzen in binnen- en buitenland.
Als jongelingen krijgen ze in duo 99% op het Vlamo kamermuziekconcours, ze behalen een beurs voor kamermuziekgroepen (Horlait-Dapsens) en allebei mogen ze de aanmoedingsprijs van de Culturele raad van Brugge in ontvangst nemen. Astrid concentreert zich daarna op kamermuziek, en richt het strijkkwartet Akhtamar op, waarmee ze talrijke concerten geeft en masterclasses volgt in binnen- en buitenland. Momenteel specialiseert ze zich ook in barokcello. Emma is freelance harpiste in Brussels Philarmonic, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, het operaorkest van De Munt, Orchestre Philarmonique Royal de Liège, en tal van kleinere bezettingen.
Samenspelen was voor de zussen altijd een evidentie en een plezier. Ze volgden samen masterclasses bij Wibert Aerts, Guy Danel, Donald Grant, Charles Watt…en gaven concerten over het hele land. Ze zijn creeërden het project ‘Kalimat’ (ism Lieve De Sadeleer).
Eind 2022 kwam hun debuutcd uit bij het label Etcetera.
Astrid is leraar aan het Stedelijk Conservatorium van Brugge en het Conservatorium aan Zee van Oostende. Emma geeft les in de Kunstacademie van Torhout, de Kunstbrug in Gent en sinds 2020 als docent aan het Lemmensinstituut in Leuven.

Les sœurs jumelles Astrid et Emma Wauters forment un duo depuis leurs premières notes de musique. Elles commencent leur formation au conservatoire municipale de Bruges.
Astrid Wauters est invitée en tant qu’étudiante “jeune talent” dans la classe de Marie Hallynck au Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles où elle obtient plus tard son Master. Elle poursuit sa formation avec un Manama Musique de Chambre en quatuor à cordes au LUCA, School of Arts, à Louvain. Emma Wauters obtient son Master en harpe avec la plus grande distinction au Koninklijk Conservatorium Antwerpen dans la classe de Sophie Hallynck, et elle se perfectionne au Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon chez Fabrice Pierre. Elle gagne plusieurs prix aux concours internationaux de harpe (Martine Géliot, Concours Godefroid, Rotary Gent).
A l’âge de 16 ans elles obtiennent en duo 99% au concours de musique de chambre Vlamo, elles sont sélectionnées pour la bourse Horlait-Dapsens en 2013 et elles reçoivent chacune le prix d’encouragement de la ville de Bruges. Astrid se consacre à la musique de chambre, et fond le quatuor Akhtamar avec lequel elle a fait de nombreux concerts et masterclasses. Elle se perfectionne en ce moment en violoncelle baroque. Emma est souvent demandée dans des orchestres comme Brussels Philharmonic, Symfonieorkest Vlaanderen, La Monnaie, Orchestre Philharmonique de Liège, et dans de nombreuses formations de musique de chambre. Elle est membre du trio Bécèl.
Jouer en duo a toujours été une joie pour les deux sœurs. Elles ont suivi des masterclasses chez Wibert Aerts, Guy Danel, Donald Grant, Charles Watt… et elles se produisent très régulièrement en concert à deux. Fin 2022 leur premier cd “Kalimat” sort chez le label Etcetera.
Astrid est professeure au conservatoire municipale de Bruges et Ostende, Emma donne cours à Bruges, Torhout, et au LUCA School of Arts à Louvain.

As twin sisters, Astrid and Emma Wauters have formed a duo since their first notes of music. They both started at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Bruges and went on to pursue their own professional careers.
As a young talent, Astrid was invited into Marie Hallynck’s class at the Conservatoire Royal de Bruxelles, where she later obtained her Master’s degree. She then went on to obtain a ManaMa Chamber Music in Leuven. Emma earns her Master’s degree in Antwerp with Sophie Hallynck, and continues her studies at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique de Lyon with Fabrice Pierre. Emma wins various prizes at home and abroad.
As youngsters, they scored 99% in duo at the Vlamo chamber music competition, won a scholarship for chamber music groups (Horlait-Dapsens) and both received the encouragement prize from the Bruges Cultural Council. Astrid then concentrates on chamber music and founds the string quartet Akhtamar, with which she gives numerous concerts and master classes in Belgium and abroad. She is currently also specialising in baroque cello. Emma is a freelance harpist in the Brussels Philharmonic, Symphony Orchestra Flanders, the opera orchestra of La Monnaie, Orchestre Philarmonique Royal de Liège, and many other smaller ensembles.
Playing together has always been an obvious pleasure for the sisters. They took master classes together with Wibert Aerts, Guy Danel, Donald Grant, Charles Watt… and gave concerts all over the country. They are currently working on the launch of their project ‘Kalimat’ (in collaboration with Lieve De Sadeleer). This year, they also started a collaboration with composer Martin Loridan.
Astrid and Emma are both teachers at the Stedelijk Conservatorium in Bruges. Emma is also a guest professor at the LUCA School of Arts in Leuven.
